Adrian Tupper, Counsellor, has written an interesting article of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in counselling. We are seeing AI coming into many aspects of our lives, but could it really replace the human interaction offered by therapy? Does it have any advantages over human therapists? After all, AI won’t be upset or shocked by anything you say and won’t judge you. But can it support you, pause to let you process your feelings, make you feel seen and understood, or help you through a crisis? Adrian used three different AI chatbots to learn how AI therapy differs from human-to-human therapy. One of the AI systems he looked at, Claude.AI, made the interesting observation that “the therapeutic relationship itself is often the healing agent – that experience of being truly seen and accepted by another human. That’s irreplaceable.”
